Cannabis Coconut Cooking Oil

Making cannabis cooking oil is an excellent alternative to making cannabis butter. It is simple and quick to make and tastes much better in baked goods compared to cannabis butter.

You can experiment with the amount of decarbed cannabis you use in this recipe. We found this amount worked well with our home-grown cannabis plants.

Prep: 30 minutes   |   Cook: 3 hours   |   Makes: 1 cup of oil

Ingredients:

10 grams of cannabis, decarbed

1 cup of coconut oil

Directions:

1) Decarbe cannabis by breaking up nugs, placing them on a lined cookie sheet, and cooking at 250°F for 30 minutes. The low heat activates the THC.

2) While the cannabis is baking, heat 1 cup of coconut oil in a medium saucepan over low heat.

3) Once cannabis is decarbed, add to the saucepan of melted coconut oil. Keep the heat on low for 3 hours, stirring periodically. Make sure the oil does not boil or simmer, although it may bubble.

4) Once oil is finished, pour through a cheesecloth-lined strainer into a bowl. For cheesecloth substitutes, click here. We use coffee filters as a substitute.

5) Using gloves because the oil is hot, squeeze any remaining oil into the bowl.

6) Allow the oil to cool before sealing in an airtight jar. We recommend a dark-coloured glass jar such as brown, blue or green as it protects against oxidation. Oxidation breaks down the oils and negates the therapeutic value over time. Enjoy it in your favourite baked good recipes!
